I will probably come back with more suggestions, as I know I will think of more.

Age 39
What horse sims have you played?
Showhorse
Howrse (Can say I tried this, but lasted maybe 2 days)
Equine Ranch

What would you like to see in a horse sim?
Good artwork. Depicting correct color and varying markings. Several outlines that could fit different horse types. IE TB, Stockhorse breeds, ponies, draft, spanish, etc.
Realistic genetics
Realistic Economy. You would have to be careful how many horses you could afford to keep, etc.
Horse care. Vetting, shoeing, etc.
Training.
Having to invest time in your horse to see how they develop before you could decide what their potential is. (I think this is important so that people dont just mass breed and keep the best statted 1 or 2 our of 10 and dump the rest)
Realistic life span and aging. Mortality.
Generations should improve, but slowly.

I am using both Equine-Ranch and Showhorse.com as reference points. I think they are both very good games, each with pros and cons.

What do you dislike the most from horse sims?
I dont want to see personalized pages, that take 20 years to load up and all this crazy talk about breeding andappstang's and unicorns.
Crazy prices
Aging process too speeded up
Horses that are born with full stats

What is your favorite part of horse sims?
The challenge of trying to breed and show competitively

How much time do you usually (or used to) spend on horse sims?
I at least check my horses daily. Some days I spend lots of time looking around and other days I need the option of a ranch sitter or foreman.

Would you be interested in free beta testing?
Yes

Any additional suggestions or concerns

What horse sims have you played?: E-R (lite and now), Howrse, tried a few others but did not like/understand them
What would you like to see in a horse sim?: ease of navigation, attractive pictures, feeling rewarded for hard work (like by winning shows, etc)
What do you dislike the most from horse sims?: not customizable enough
What is your favorite part of horse sims?: breeding, raising babies--doing initial training and having them "learn"
How much time do you usually (or used to) spend on horse sims?: 30 minutes a day or so, but with the ability to have to do less or more depending on the day
Would you be interested in free beta testing?: of course!

What horse sims have you played?
previously horseland, LE, VHR, showhorse, and another, the name of which i've forgotten, that was run by ant on horseland.
currently ER and trophyhorse.

What would you like to see in a horse sim?
realism in breeds/breeding(no morgan x shetland pony = clydesdale) and in the market. colors appropriate/correct for the breed. realistic disciplines based on breed(i was a bit bummed when the "breed bonus" was removed from ER). realistic training methods.

What do you dislike the most from horse sims?
ridiculous, out of control economies, lack of having to put any real effort in to playing.

What is your favorite part of horse sims?
breeding, seeing my training efforts pay off. i'm probably one of the few who doesn't care about the graphics, since the pictures don't actually DO anything other than look nice.

How much time do you usually (or used to) spend on horse sims?
depends on the day. some days i have to rush through, or just don't feel like spending much time on them, other days i linger for hours lol.

Would you be interested in free beta testing?
of course.

What horse sims have you played?
Howrse and E-R

What would you like to see in a horse sim?
Hmmm...more realism, Better pictures, diverse colors and different type markings on horses, basically what has already been said I agree with.

What do you dislike the most from horse sims?
I really like horse sims and don't really have any dislikes.

What is your favorite part of horse sims?
The feeling of accomplishment when my horses gain titles and earn money, breeding the colors/patterns I want and achieving my goals.

How much time do you usually (or used to) spend on horse sims?
It depends on my schedule really. Maybe couple times a day maybe once every other day.

Would you be interested in free beta testing?
Absolutely!

Any additional suggestions or concerns?
I would like a more 'friendly' type environment. It would be nice to have like staff members or employees (they can be paid in sim cash or something) and not just one person running -everything-. That way their could be like a 'jury' and not just one person deciding punishment but, everybody. I'm rambling on now...

Age 40+
What horse sims have you played?
Showhorse, TrophyHorse,
White Oak Stables,
Howrse (Daughter started this, but lasted about 5 days)
Equine Ranch
Equination.net

What would you like to see in a horse sim?
Horses that look like their breed category...ex: ponies, drafts, minis, racers, etc with breed appropriate colors.
Realistic genetics that advance appropriately.
Breed appropriate disciplines.
Realistic life span, aging and death.
Generations that improve, but slowly.

What do you dislike the most from horse sims?
Banners or personal pics on horses pages. Ranch pages can have 1 photo or drawn banner within a set size.
Horses that are born with full stats.
Drastic increased improvements of foal over parents.
Rules that aren't clear...where people ask if it means this or if it means that and then aren't corrected to straighten out the confusion.

What is your favorite part of horse sims?
Trying to improve my horses and showing.

How much time do you usually (or used to) spend on horse sims?
It varies. My wife plays while I'm at work....probably a few hours a day. We restrict our daughter to 1-1.5 hrs a day. I usually spend 1 or 2 hrs a night dinking around with my ranch and the forums.

Would you be interested in free beta testing?
Definitely

Any additional suggestions or concerns
I know that it probably costs a lot to run these games, but keeping the game reasonable is necessary.

What horse sims have you played?
Howrse, VHR, LE, Hajinc, ER (v3 & v4), Showhorse.. You name it I've probably tried to play it.

What would you like to see in a horse sim?
More realistic pictures with realistic colors. Also, It would be nice to have some variations on markings. Such as half-moons, stars, blaze, badger faces, medicine hats, bald faces, star-strip-snip, stripes snips, etc - Also irregular face markings like interrupted stripes or unusual stripes.

I would also like to see some variation in horse bodies. Not just one body for every single horse. I'm talking like Arabian type builds, Drafts, Spanish, Quarter Horse, etc etc.

Also variations in markings.. Not every Tobiano, Sabino or Tovero, etc has the same style of markings.

REALISTIC BREEDING AND REALISTIC GENETICS!

No limit on how many mares can be bred.

The ability to hire trainers to train your horses.

Realistic life spans.

Basically, I am wanting things to be as true to life as possible.

That's all I can think of for right now.

Customizable personal pages. I really like them. I also think it would be great to be able to have a section where visiting players can post comments on your page.

ULTRA-SOUNDS for mares! (Where you would find out the gender.. maybe even possibly the color -- they had this on Howrse).

What do you dislike the most from horse sims?
Things being unrealistic!

Unrealistic economies.

Power-tripping creators and/or moderators

What is your favorite part of horse sims?
The rewarding feeling you have when a horse you've bred starts doing very well in the show-ring.

Being able to breed all sorts of colors and patterns.

How much time do you usually (or used to) spend on horse sims?
Depends on my schedule really. I normally spend at least 30 minutes a day on various horse sims. Other times I am on for hours. Just depends. I'd also like to have the option of a ranch sitter or foreman.

Would you be interested in free beta testing?
No doubt. I would.

Any additional suggestions or concerns
I really like horseofdeaths suggestion about having players take some of the responsibility for enforcing rules and creating their own fun.

Also, as Chewbacca said, "keeping the game reasonable is necessary"

I just thought of another suggestion. Another nice aspect would be to have "helpers" or someone who can answer questions and things, but who does not play the game, and cannot control the game at all. That way people could get their questions answered, and there would be no way for the helpers to play favorites.

Thanks to all of you who commented and emailed. I suspected a lot of the things that people wrote but there were a couple surprises. I will definitely be sure to post here when we get ready for beta testing or possibly set up a mailing list.

Thanks again! :)

What would you like to see in a horse sim?

Number one priority: TRAINING ORIENTED.

Not a click-off to see who can enter the most events.

Not something when all you have to do is breed a good foal and there's your fortune made.

Training. Training. TRAINING.

Sophisticated stat genetics (colour's nice too).

Nothing too fantastical.

A good, but not too tight-lipped community.

A prompt admin you can make friends with.

A loose timeline. You can afford to miss a day or two without your horses suffering.

Professional, realistic terminology.

Like I said, training oriented. A strategical, challenging game for more mature players. Not pretty candies you can feed your horse and your horse needs to be fed manually and groomed manually and PLAYED WITH.

What do you dislike the most from horse sims?

When the whole point is to click on "enter" in as many shows as you can.

When the community is held with seventeen ropes and a straitjacket--AKA, every single thing has to be smothered in sugar and even then you can offend someone.

When, unless you pay, you can do basically nothing.

What is your favorite part of horse sims?

The training and the breeding and the training of good foals and the eventing of the well-trained good foals who have become horses. :D

How much time do you usually (or used to) spend on horse sims?

Not too long. xD As long as I have that day.

Would you be interested in free beta testing?

Depends on how good the game is. ;) Probably.

Any additional suggestions or concerns?

Why? xD
